Welcome to Stark County Court of Common Pleas, General Division.

The General Division has original jurisdiction in criminal felony cases and in civil cases in which the amount in controversy exceeds $500.00. Civil cases encompass a wide range of lawsuits including: negligence, property disputes, breach of contract, foreclosure, workers compensation and appellate jurisdiction over the decisions of some state administrative agencies.

Article IV, Section 1 of the Ohio Constitution establishes the Court of Common Pleas, the only trial court created by the Constitution, and its duties are outlined in Article IV, Section 4. There is a court of common pleas in each of Ohio's 88 counties

Common pleas court judges are elected to six-year terms on a non-partisan ballot. A person must be an attorney with at least six years of experience in the practice of law to be elected or appointed to the court.

There are five judges who serve on the Stark County Court of Common Pleas, General Division:
