Community Legal Aid Services provides free legal assistance in civil matters for low-income and elderly residents of Columbiana, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Wayne Counties. CLAS is a private not for profit Ohio Corporation.

To Secure justice for and to protect the rights of the poor and to promote measures for their assistance and to enable them to obtain competent legal advice and representation.

Program Description

CLAS provides free, high-quality, legal counsel and representation in civil matters, to eligible low-income and elderly residents of central northeast Ohio who have nowhere else to turn when faced with serious legal problems.

CLAS helps the low-income and elderly residents of Stark County with legal problems which threaten their safety, self-sufficiency, family stability, and financial well-being. CLAS provides a wide range of legal services including, advice, brief and extended legal representation, community education and self-help assistance. CLAS represents domestic violence in a wide range of legal issues including obtaining Civil Protection Orders or divorces from their abusers.

Most clients access assistance through the Legal Aid HelpLine at 1-800-998-9454. Callers provide demographic information for themselves and their household residents, financial eligibility information, and a summary of their legal problem.
