Tenant Protection Act
The Stark County Fair Housing Department (SCFHD) is dedicated to the elimination of housing discrimination and the enforcement of fair housing laws. The staff strives to ensure equal opportunities in housing to all residents. The SCFHD covers all of Stark County with the exception of the cities of Canton and Massillon. The department contracts with the city of Alliance to administer their fair housing program.

To assure that equal housing opportunity for all is being provided, the SCFHD will:
Counsel you on your fair housing rights;
Counsel you on landlord/tenant rights and responsibilities;
Process and investigate your fair housing complaint;
Sponsor educational workshops and seminars;
Monitor discrimination compliance;
Provide relevant housing literature.
The Stark County Fair Housing Department’s mission is to eliminate housing discrimination, racial and sexual harassment and to ensure housing opportunities for all people regardless of a person’s race, color, sex, religion, ancestry, national origin, handicap or familial status. In furthering this goal, the department promotes equal housing opportunity through leadership, education, and outreach. The department identifies barriers to fair housing in order to help counteract and eliminate discriminatory housing practices. All appropriate and necessary actions are taken to ensure that fair housing laws are properly and fairly enforced throughout the cities of Alliance, Canton, and Stark County.
